, an organization dedicated -- in large part -- to the "cross-pollination" of inspired ideas about sustainable food systems in the global economy, is hosting a stupendous-sounding feast of wild game and foraged delicacies to benefit the production of Swamp Cabbage: A Dark and Sweaty Survival Guide
, a documentary by Hailey Downs and Julie Kahn. The film follows Downs as she chases memories and myth through the natural setting of her upbringing in rural Florida: frying freshly gigged frogs on Lake Okeeochobee, eating raccoon stew in Ocala National Forest with Janet Reno's brother, and trapping wild boar on Cape Canaveral -- among other adventures. Judging from the posted menu, the dinner won't stray too far from the flick's woodsier themes. We're especially looking forward to wild mushroom beehive oven pizza, black cod crostini, alligator bites, Ryan Farr's chicharrones, and roasted Mendocino County wild boar prepared by Morgan Maki of Bi-Rite. And there'll be what's called a Jerk Off jerky tasting, including specimens from Fatted Calf and Marin Sun Farms, with this blogger among the judges.
Tickets are available on a sliding scale, $50-$150.
