Our favorite morsel from the blogs.

Bloody pointless?: NBC Bay Area's Joe Rosato Jr. does a Geraldo-in-Capone's-vault tour behind the walls of Lefty O'Doul's. Rosato:

Around another corner, a staggering sight materialized: A ceiling of glass skylights illuminates a massive room of wooden beams and ornate molding. At one end of the 70-foot long room, the wall is a faded powder blue. Sculptures of fish hang on every corner, standing guard over a place time and progress have forgotten.
Cool. And cobwebby. But the more significant find for foodies was a card stuffed into a moldering golf bag -- a recipe for Bloody Marys, in Lefty O'Doul's own handwriting. Rosato again:
To understand the significance of this you have to know a bit about Lefty's. The bar is famous for its Bloody Mary's recipe, crafted by Lefty when he opened the place in 1958. The recipe was passed down from bartender to bartender, but was never seen in written form. Now in Bovis's hand was the original, dated 1966.
Turns out Lefty's bottles a Bloody Mary mix as it is; now, owner Nick Bovis is thinking of bottling the '66 recipe, which varies in small ways, apparently, from the current Lefty's concoction.

Seems unlikely to us that S.F. is clamoring for the Rosetta Stone of tomato juice cocktails. But hey -- never underestimate the power of a recipe. 'Specially one from beyond the grave.
