Who is "Ruth Bourdain," shadowy operator of the Twitter feed that's a mashup of Ruth Reichl and Anthony Bourdain? Nobody's saying (both Bourdain and Reichl claim it's not them), but Bourdain, for one, is a fan. He says he's both flattered and disturbed by it, and thinks the Ruth Bourdain photo with his face and Reichl's hair is downright scary.

Reichl did a "surprise" call to Bourdain's Turn and Burn radio show with Eric Ripert on Sirius XM's Martha Stewart Living Radio last week. On the audio clip (listen here on YouTube), the call sounds like it was set up in advance: Reichl gushes "You make me happy!" to Bourdain and Ripert. Over giggles from the live studio audience, Ripert reads a Ruth Bourdain tweet ("Have you ever smoked tangerine zest from a bong?"), followed by one where he drops the F-bomb (in zee sexiest French accent). "Cloudy as fuck," it opens.

Then Reichl tells Ripert and Bourdain she thinks Ruth Bourdain must be a man, since she catches a whiff "of the testosterone in the text." Ripert adds, "A woman would never say 'Cloudy as fuck.'"

Apparently, Ripert has never worked in a kitchen with the kind of woman who would say just that.

The San Francisco Street Food Festival was another success this year. Dozens of vendors with original, unheard-of creations, such as deep fried mac and cheese on a stick, black pea paste pancakes, and Korean quesadillas. Then there was the comfort foods we've grown accustomed to, like creme bruleé, shrimp rolls, and pound cake. Photographs by Mabel Jimenez.
