Urban Kitchen Dips Into Yogurt, Kefir at Ferry Building How-To

Yeah, you could consult a book to learn how to culture up a few pints of yogurt, but what fun is that? Urban homesteading might be all about inching your way off a very crowded food grid, but that doesn't mean you have to hone your chops in solitude.

Next week at the Ferry Building, Urban Kitchen SF is inviting in Jordan Champagne of Happy Girl Kitchen to demonstrate how to get wrist-deep in probiotics. Students will learn the intricacies of making cow- and goat-milk yogurts and kefirs ― everyone who attends is promised a pint each of the stuff, as well as what Urban Kitchen's website suggests will be "enough kefir grains to start your own batch at home." Didn't know kefir starts with grains? We didn't either ― take it as a sign you might seriously need this class. Details after the jump.
