Street-food vendors will focus on potatoes this weekend in a fundraiser for the after-school Beacon Culinary Project
in the Western Addition, where Roger Feely (Soul Cocina
) and Brian Kimball (Magic Curry Kart
) are instructors. For the First Annual Great Potato Sack Race, Feely and carts such as Mali Num Num Treats
, Gumbo Cart
, Lumpia Cart
, Pot Pie Junkie
, Sweet Constructions
, and Dezy's Drinks
will have an array of snacks for sale, many of them some form of potato creation. The race's winner will receive free food at the after-party (held at nearby La Victoria Bakery
) and the chance to win a cooking class from Feely's instructional project, Jharna's Kitchen.
Vendors will bring as many potato (or coffee) sacks as they can find, but it's probably a good idea to bring one of your own if you plan to compete. Feely is also asking for donations of new kitchen implements for the Beacon Culinary Project; contact him through his website if you have something to give.
