We got to the SF Street Food Fest early on Saturday, ready to eat, but we didn't expect to find so many tasty beverages on offer. How refreshing it was to bypass cans of Coke for rose milk (Azalina's Malaysian), mint-lime soda (Aziza), purple corn-infused chicha morada (La Mar Cebicheria), and watermelon aguas frescas (Chez Papa Resto), even if the weather wasn't quite as sunny as these drinks called for.

We were there too early to feel like partaking of alcohol, though if we had been we would have been in good hands with selections from the Alembic, Beretta, and Rye on the Road. We were taken with Adobo Hobo's calamansi Thai basil refresher, surprised to hear that they'd sourced the calamansi from the East Bay. The citrus, colloquially known as "acid orange," is native to Southeast Asia. Our top highlight, though, was Delfina's "kool-aide," a deep purple concoction made with Concord grapes and acai berries. It, along with most everything else we tried, should be bottled for sale all the time.
