Kosher Food and Social Justice Subject of Sha'ar Zahav Talk

Kosher Jews, Mike Tyson, and anyone else interested in a good ole San Francisco-style discussion regarding food, Jewish law, and ethics will want to check out next week's panel discussion at Congregation Sha'ar Zahav in the Mission. "Chewing on Food Justice ― Is Kosher, Kosher?" will range from kosher vegetarianism (who knew?), the strengths and weaknesses of kosher dietary practices, and the role of social justice in a kosher diet. The panel consists of three rabbis and the owner of Saul's Deli, so you know it's legit. Most interesting to us is the presence of "The Rabbi Chef" Becky Joseph, Parve Baker blogger and owner of 12 Tribes Kosher Foods, a new local company. So that you don't go hungry the night before you'll be gorging on latkes and jelly donuts, dinner (kosher of course) will be served for a $10 surcharge.

Chewing on Food Justice ― Is Kosher, Kosher?

When: Tue., Nov. 30, 6:30-9 p.m.

Where: Congregation Sha'ar Zahav, 290 Dolores (at 16th St.)

Cost: $5; $15 with dinner

Tickets available through Eventbrite
