It's not till you're older, with a 420-fueled freakout over that late-night session with Chucky under your belt, that things like gingerbread men can seem sinister. When you're a kid gingerbread men are charming ― something you can verify by watching the look of joy on your kids' faces at a few upcoming free events organized by the S.F. Public Library. Wednesday there's a gingerbread decorating party for kids 5 and older at the library's Visitacion Valley branch on Leland: ginger people, icing ― the library's providing it all. Saturday in Potrero, it's Fun Fest with Gingerbread People: Felicia Martin tells holiday stories, as kids flesh out gingerbread men with icing and other accoutrements. Martin shows up at the Ocean View branch the following Tuesday, for Ginger, Ginger, Gingerbread Yum! for more holiday stories and what the SFPL calls "gingerbread fun." For kids, that probably includes biting off limbs and heads, age-old acts of cookie mutilation. On second thought, maybe gingerbread men are always totally sinister.
