The past 24 hours in gossip, innuendo, and cold hard facts about the San Francisco restaurant scene.

SFoodie was under the impression that the gossip flow would slow in the last week of the year, but no. Here we are, caught in a flood of rumors and press releases, dog-paddling furiously to stay afloat:

What is happening in the Lower Haight? Coming on the heels of three recent closures (RNM, Burger Joint, India Oven), Inside Scoop confirms that Bistro St. Germain (518 Haight) is also shuttering. The good news is that the space is going through a quick turnaround, becoming an American bistro, though the name and chef are still a mystery. Other good news: the former Burger Joint space will soon reopen as Palmyra (700 Haight).

Grub Street acquires intel from Allison Arevalo and Erin Wade regarding the (tentative) January opening date for their mac and cheese restaurant, Homeroom (400 40th St., Oakland, homreroom510.com). The pitch: macaroni and cheese. Many variations thereof.

It's a bad week for restaurants with Parisian names. Grub Street also reports that Place Pigalle in Hayes Valley has lost its lease. This is a more reasonable explanation for the bar's closing than the first rumor Grub Street caught wind of ― that Place Pigalle lost its liquor license after hosting a Kink.com photo shoot. SFoodie has to say, though, we liked the first story better. Can we keep it?

According to Inside Scoop, Chocolatier Blue, which has two Berkeley stores and a total of four nationwide, is opening a third Bay Area store in January at 800 Redwood Drive, Mill Valley.
