Cookie Jar Throwdown

Omnivore Books on Food, 3885a Cesar Chavez (at Church), 3-4 p.m.

For their first cooking contest of 2011, Omnivore Books is keeping it simple with a cookie bake-off. Complete description here.

Poleng Lounge Tribute Dinner

The Summit, 780 Valencia (at 19th St.), dinner 6-9 p.m., afterparty 9 p.m.-2 a.m.

Tim Luym, chef at the now-shuttered Poleng Lounge, returns for one night to serve up some of his mod-Filipino favorites. Complete description here.

Stag Dining Group's "Speakeasy" Dinner

Secret Mission location, 7 p.m. (also Sunday at 5 p.m.)

Chefs Jordan Grosser and Ted Fleury pair with the geniuses at the Cocktail Lab for an underground five-course dinner and cocktail pairing. Complete description here.

Sutton Cellars Vermouth Tasting

Sutton Cellars, 601 22nd (at Illinois), 2 p.m.

Carl Sutton, mustachioed maven behind Sutton Cellars, will be doling out samples of his N.Y. Times-lauded vermouth while schooling you on its production. Complete description here.

Ten-Course Filipino Dishcrawl
