The past 24 hours in gossip, innuendo, and cold hard facts about the San Francisco food scene.

Inside Scoop gets word that James Syhabout's Hawker Fare (2300 Webster at 23rd St. in Oakland) is set to open for lunch on May 17 and dinner on May 26. A sharp departure from Syhabout's meticulously refined Commis, Hawker Fare will feature a hip-hop vibe (music, kung fu posters) and an Asian street-food menu.

And the Richmond District Blog notes that the Fresh and Easy market set to open on 32nd Ave. at Clement has hit a snag. All Fresh and Easy stores are self-checkout only, and with Assemblywoman Fiona Ma's proposed ban on selling alcohol at DIY registers, that could mean a boozy showdown.
