Dominique Crenn at Macy's

Where: Macy's Union Square, 170 O'Farrell (at Powell), 397-3333

When: Sat., June 25, 2 p.m.

Cost: Free

The rundown: Dominique Crenn is the popular kid who managed to be friends with everybody without affecting her cool. In the past year, she has blown up locally and nationally, all while remaining friendly and approachable. Case in point: This weekend she is giving a free cooking demo at Macy's as the centerpiece of their Pride weekend festivities.* It's unclear whether she'll be giving lessons on her elaborate "poetic culinaria" or if she'll just be baking muffins, but we're predicting a pleasant afternoon no matter what.

*because SF is proud of her?

The San Francisco Street Food Festival was another success this year. Dozens of vendors with original, unheard-of creations, such as deep fried mac and cheese on a stick, black pea paste pancakes, and Korean quesadillas. Then there was the comfort foods we've grown accustomed to, like creme bruleé, shrimp rolls, and pound cake. Photographs by Mabel Jimenez.
