We've been waiting with bated breath for the inaugural release from San Francisco's Almanac Beer Co. and our Zenlike patience is about to pay off in a big way. At the end of the month, all 309 cases of the Summer 2010 Vintage Blackberry Ale will be unleashed upon the Bay Area.

After an eight-month nap in used wine barrels, this beery collision of a classic Belgian Golden ale with citrus-tinged American hops is ripe for consumption or ready for a long rest in your cellar. As if that description isn't mouthwatering enough, the brew rested in the barrel with 200 pounds of hand-picked Cherokee blackberries and 50 pounds of marionberries, ollalieberries, and boysenberries from Sebastopol Berry Farm.

Purchase bottles, taste rare variations of the beer, and rub elbows with founders Jesse Friedman and Damian Fagan at these upcoming launch events:

The San Francisco Street Food Festival was another success this year. Dozens of vendors with original, unheard-of creations, such as deep fried mac and cheese on a stick, black pea paste pancakes, and Korean quesadillas. Then there was the comfort foods we've grown accustomed to, like creme bruleé, shrimp rolls, and pound cake. Photographs by Mabel Jimenez.
