Almanac Beer Debuts Bottles, Parties Hard

We've been waiting with bated breath for the inaugural release from San Francisco's Almanac Beer Co. and our Zenlike patience is about to pay off in a big way. At the end of the month, all 309 cases of the Summer 2010 Vintage Blackberry Ale will be unleashed upon the Bay Area.

After an eight-month nap in used wine barrels, this beery collision of a classic Belgian Golden ale with citrus-tinged American hops is ripe for consumption or ready for a long rest in your cellar. As if that description isn't mouthwatering enough, the brew rested in the barrel with 200 pounds of hand-picked Cherokee blackberries and 50 pounds of marionberries, ollalieberries, and boysenberries from Sebastopol Berry Farm.

Purchase bottles, taste rare variations of the beer, and rub elbows with founders Jesse Friedman and Damian Fagan at these upcoming launch events:

Bottle Release Event

Where: City Beer Store, 1168 Folsom (at Eighth St.), 503-1033

When: Thursday, June 30, 6 p.m.

The rundown: Be the first on the block to purchase bottles, and sample keg pours of the Summer 2010 Ale, alongside a limited sour version of the brew. Pair it with Almanac-infused terrines and pates from Hapa Ramen. Take a photo with the Almanac folks and gush about how you knew them before they were huge.

Healthy Spirits Presents Almanac Beer Co.

Where: Fat Angel, 1740 O'Farrell (at Fillmore), 525-3013

When: Thursday, July 7, 6 p.m.

The rundown: Try the Summer 2010 Ale from the bottle and on draft. Fat Angel will prepare food specials; beer geekery ensues.

Almanac Pop Up

Where: Shotwell's, 3349 20th St. (at Shotwell), 648-4104

When: Thursday, July 14, 6 p.m.

The rundown: Take another stab at the limited sour version of the brew alongside the bottle and draft versions. Local food purveyors Wise Sons Deli, Kitchen SideCar, and Nosh This will sling Almanac-infused vittles. Have the brewers sign your bottle and/or body parts.
