After 20 years, The Dining Room at the Ritz-Carlton will close for an extended beauty sleep and extreme makeover, from which it will emerge impossibly fresh and new, a more casual experience and concept in contrast to the hours-long, multi-course tasting menus that are a current staple of business. With this change comes a brand new cocktail program as well. We will certainly miss a drink called Petals (Ketel One vodka, St. Germain, Yellow Chartreuse, and lemon juice), which nails the elusive floral-citrus balance that often tips lesser tipples into Lemon Pledge territory. We understand the spirit of change, but maybe they'd see fit to simply rename this drink (or let us order it off-menu). The restaurant closes for the big revamp on September 15, and hopes to reopen by the holidays. In the meantime, chef Ron Siegel's gorgeous eight-course salt and pepper tasting menu is the highlighted experience and a fond way to bid farewell to an iconic room.
