Urban Solutions Hopes to Bring More Restaurants to Mid-Market

Posted By on Wed, Nov 30, 2011 at 9:00 AM

The somewhat beleaguered Mid-Market is attempting a culinary comeback. Or so we've been told for quite some time. However, with the recent additions of AQ at 7th street and Mission and Pearl's Deluxe Burgers at Market and Golden Gate, it looks like it just might be possible, and Urban Solutions is the non-profit behind much of this. Urban Solutions works to get business up and running in the area, and receives funding from city agencies, banks, and local corporations. Working with similar agencies, they help secure leases, construction, and financing for business looking to call the the Mid-Market area home.

We spoke with Tracy Everwine from Urban Solutions and got the inside scoop on what's next for Mid-Market's restaurant redevelopment.

According to Everwine, there are currently some mayor's office incentives for restaurants considering opening Mid-Market, but if it becomes officially designated as a redevelopment area, there will be even more accessibility to grants. Everwine's hopeful that'll happen within the year, and things will start to blow-up.

When asked about whether nearby corporations are helping to fund new business ventures --- hello, Twitter! -- Everwine says no. She adds, "it's an interesting concept, though."

She also says that Urban Solutions has some restaurant lease negotiations they can't talk about, but things are in the works. The next opening is Dottie's True Blue Cafe, which is scheduled to debut mid-December in Passion Cafe's old space on 6th street at Stevenson. We'll keep you posted on what's happening with the other new restaurants as soon as we hear. Until then, you'll find us fighting off local charm for a counter spot at Dottie's.
