This Weekend in the Mission: Ramen Movie Night and a Pickled Egg Eating Contest

Sure, eating and drinking in the Mission is a fun activity any night of the week. But if you're tired of the same old scene and want to do something out of the ordinary this weekend, there are a few events worth checking out.

The Galley's Two Year Anniversary Party

When: Friday, March 1, 6-10 p.m.

Where: Clooney's Pub, 1401 Valencia (at 25th)

Cost: Free to attend; food a la carte

The rundown: The Galley is throwing a birthday party in honor of its two years in business, and inviting the neighborhood in for its signature French onion sandwiches and pickled pepper eggs, as well as Navajo tacos from Rocky's Frybread and fried chicken bao from Guillermo from FogCutter/Dear Mom. Plus, there will be a pickled pepper egg-eating contest starting at 7 p.m. You don't need to sign up in advance but it is first-come, first-served and limited to 25 people -- the hardy man or woman who gets the fastest time will receive a Galley gift certificate.

Ramen and Tampopo Movie Night

When: Sat. March 2, movie at 7 p.m., ramen at 8 p.m.

Where: 1417 15th (at Shotwell)

Cost: $25; buy tickets on Eventbrite

The rundown: ForageSF is throwing a movie night. The film is Tampopo, the legendary flick about a Japanese ramen shop that's impossible to watch without wanting a side of noodle soup. To that end, there will be ramen served, complete with char siu, slow-poached eggs, and other ramen-y ingredients. There will be some sleeping bags, tents, and chairs on hand to keep you warm, but it's probably best to bring your own blankets if you want to be sure to stay warm and toasty. Also buy tickets fast -- the first night (Friday) sold out in a matter of hours.
