Class Alert! Master Urban Sea Foraging, Latin Cheese, and Fresh Pasta

It seems to be pasta-making season now and Flour + Water (2401 Harrison) frequently offers multi-class series on making pasta, and the next one runs March 5 (flat noodles) and March 12 (stuffed pastas); both start at 6:30 p.m. and double as dinner. Take homes include a recipe book and fresh pasta to play with at home. Reserve a spot ($200 for each) via Brown Paper Tickets. On a related note and a higher authority, the church Eucharist (285 Main) is offering a casual "Fresh Pasta 101" course on March 9; grab your ticket ($25) here.

On the Peninsula, Terra and Ame owners Hiro Sone and Lissa Doumani are holding a demonstration class on March 7 at Draeger's (222 E. Fourth Ave., San Mateo). Sit back and drink wine while they cook up "A Taste of Terra" (including kanpachi, carpaccio, pasta in duck miso ragu, and goat cheese cake with caramelized pear compote) for immediate gratification. They'll also send you home with recipes to recreate the magic. Reserve your space ($65) on the Draeger's site.

Also on March 7 is a class on Latin cheeses hosted by the Milk Maid and CUESA in the outdoor arcade of the Ferry Building (One Ferry Building). Admission ($49) to the two-hour session includes a take-home kit to make your own cheese (and we thought only cows made cheese!). Queso freaks, click here to sign up.

All month, forageSF is hosting "Urban Sea Foraging" classes in San Francisco and the North Bay. Tickets ($40) are available for March 16, March 23, March 30, and March 31. While you'll learn how to capture rock crabs, eels, and mussels and identify edible seaweed plants, this isn't billed as a class where you can actually capture critters on the spot; you'll have to learn the skills and put them to illicit use later.

After all those carbs and fishies and what-have-you, a "Fermentation for Spring Renewal" class at 18 Reasons (3674 18th St.) on March 25 seems in order. Make your own kombucha, kvass, kimchi, and salsa that tastes good and will help your belly feel better. Admission ($40) is available through Eventbrite.
