We're longtime fans and readers of Eater, the restaurant news and gossip site, and were intrigued to hear that the company released a new iPhone and Android app today. It's pretty bare bones right now, but seems like it could be useful in the right circumstances, like when you're on a random street corner and really want to impress someone with your restaurant knowledge. Right now the app has all the Eater 38 (essential S.F. restaurants) and Heatmap (hot S.F. restaurants) info in it, and uses GPS to tell you which of both category are close to you. Currently the restaurant info is limited to the name, phone number, a photo, and a short blurb for each, but the app also has a feed of the latest Eater stories, curated by S.F.'s own Allie Pape, and we're sure it'll continue to develop in the future.

The app joins others like Chefs Feed and of course the SF Weekly Best Of app to provide a more curated experience than, say, Yelp on where to eat in the city.

Speaking of Yelp, we were mildly amused by this video of an obsessive Yelper posted today on, where else, Eater.
