What better dish to celebrate a dessert date than with a sweet treat that shares its name with the occasion's namesake? Before hitting the SOMA bars this weekend, stop by AQ for a drink and dessert: A sweet date pastry cake that is pretty much a plate of autumn.

Grab seats at the bar for a casual time, or reserve a candlelit table for a more intimate vibe. As part of the seasonal autumn menu from AQ's new pastry chef, the date cake is perfect to share with a close friend or that special someone. The soft, flaky cake comes in a rectangular block, surrounded by small heaps of candied walnuts and a scoop of creamy vanilla pudding with small hints of orange zest. The sweetened, subtle date flavor elegantly complements the dense custard, and adding a bit of caramelized walnut cluster gives each bite a satisfying crunch.

Split between two, the dessert is light and pleasant on the palate. The beige essence of the plate, along with the warm lighting in AQ will put you in a romantic, fall mood. Sounds like a pretty sweet date -- pun intended.
