With Strong Beer Month and SF Beer Week looming on the immediate horizon, we think it's time to start shocking those livers into obedience. So far in this new year, we've been immediately attracted to offerings of the hoppy variety. To kick off the Bay Area's booziest month while satisfying your craving for some of the country's hoppiest brews, check out this slew of Triple IPA releases from some of our backyard's best.

Drake's Triple Hopocalypse Release
When: Feb. 1st, 10am-9pm
Where: Drake's Barrel House, 1933 Davis St., San Leandro (literally behind the Walmart/Sports Authority)
Cost: pay per drink/bottle/growler
What: Food from Fists of Flour Pizza and Fivetenburger, brewery tours, and the release of three hoppy brews. A shuttle will be available from BART. Beer details below:
Hopocalyse: 9.3 percent ABV Double IPA with a touch of rye. Available by the glass, in growlers, and in 22-ounce bottles. There will be a special cask version of the beer with grapefruit added.
Hopocalyse Black Label: 12.5 percent ABV Triple IPA. This brew is about as hoppy as it gets, and will be available by the glass, and in 22oz bottles (2 bottle limit, and will certainly sell out within hours). A special cask version with oak chips will be available for sampling.
Post-Hopocalypse Session IPA: 4 percent ABV session IPA made from the second runnings of Hopocalypse Black Label. This beer will only be available on draft, with a special apricot-infused cask version to boot.
Heretic Evil 3 Release
Where: Heretic Brewing Co., 1052 Horizon Drive Suite B, Fairfield
When: Feb. 1, noon
Cost: pay per drink/growler
What: Heretic's first brewery event, and the release of its first Triple IPA. Evil 3 (that's "evil cubed") comes in at 11.5 percent ABV, and is a collaboration between Stone's Brewmaster Mitch Steele, Homebrew Icon Mike "Tasty" McDole, and Heretic's own Brewmaster Jamil Zainasheff. The beer will be available on draft, and for take-away with a one-growler limit.
Russian River Pliny the Younger Release
Where: Russian River Brewing, 725 Fourth St., Santa Rosa
When: Feb. 7-20
Cost: pay per drink
What: The staggered release of the Triple IPA that put the style on the map. The beer will be on tap at opening every morning for two weeks, until it runs out. The beer will not be available for take-away. Expect very long lines, and extremely happy tastebuds.
