National Pi Day (3.14) might have started as a nerdy holiday at the Exploratorium, but it's become embraced by bakers and sweets aficionados alike as a way to celebrate, well, pies.

As always since the shop has opened, Mission Pie is offering slices of sweet and savory pies for $3.14 (regular cost is $4). The shop is also teaming up with LuckyBolt to offer pie delivery on Friday. Order by 10 p.m. on Wednesday to make sure you get your order in for apple, pear-blueberry, Dutch apple, walnut, Shaker lemon, banana cream, or vegan spiced apple (all $22). Delivery cost varies depending on size of order and location. Call to order: 282-1500.

Three Babes Bakeshop is delivering pies for $3.14 all day Friday (though the pies, as usual, are $35). On the menu is vanilla baked apple, salty honey walnut, bittersweet chocolate pecan, bourbon pecan, apple crumble, and citrus mascarpone. Place an order by phone (617-9774) or on the Three Babes website.

Pizza is pie, too, and Patxi's is offering a carry-out special for people who "like" them on Facebook. $3.14 gets you a slice of signature Chicago-style stuffed pizza or hand-pulled thin crust pie, a choice of salad (chopped salad available for additional cost) and a non-alcoholic beverage (11 a.m.-4 p.m.) Proof of fan status, via smartphone or printout, is required for the offer. All S.F. locations are participating.

UPDATE: Some more events have come over the wire.

On Friday Chile Pies & Ice Cream on Church is getting in on the action with slices of lemon-buttermilk for $3.14 (before tax), and whole blueberry apple basil pies with the pi symbol on top for $22.

Sample pies from around the country at the Goldbely pop-up at Dear Mom. Try slices of Momofuku's famous crack pie (and two other pies overnighted from the restaurant), cherry pie from the cafe near Seattle that was prominently featured in Twin Peaks, key lime pie from Mike's Pies in Tampa, and more. Slices are $3.14, and include one drink ticket for a cocktail that pairs with the pie. Here's the full list:
