Today Food Club floated ashore -- a delightful parody of restaurant reality TV starring comedians and friends Aziz Ansari, Tim and Eric's Eric Wareheim, and Jason Woliner. Clad in suits and sailor caps, the Food Club gang roams the world deciding whether to "plaque" a restaurant with their seal of approval, or burn the plaque in front of the restaurant in disgust.
The show nails all the reality TV conventions, from the slow-mo, black-and-white replay of disasters to the tense music during the plaque-decision scene, but the food coverage is actually pretty good too. Los Angeles restaurants are the focus of the first 14-minute episode, featuring fun cameos by Michael Voltaggio (ink.), Craig Thornton (Wolfsmouth), and Jonathan Gold (restaurant critic for the LA Times), among other culinary luminaries.
Ansari was just in town for a few standup dates -- dare we hope that S.F. will be the focus of an upcoming episode?
