Heads up to anyone visiting the Russian River and wants some fresh oysters. Bodega Bay Oyster Company -- confusingly named, given it's not in Bodega Bay and the oysters come from Tomales -- is now open on Highway 1 near Valley Forge. The eagle eyes on Chowhound spotted the new business, which offers shellfish-oriented retail now but says it hopes to have "picnic grounds with BBQ facilities open within the year."

Bodega Bay Oyster Co. is a sister to 25-year-old Point Reyes Oyster Co., whose fresh seafood you may have encountered at the Alemany Market. The shop offers an assortment of miyagi, kumamoto, and Atlantic oysters as well as mussels and clams. All of it is grown over the farm's 92 acres in the nearby Tomales Bay (also home to Hog Island Oyster Co. and the Tomales Bay Oyster Co.).

12830 Valley Ford Road, Petaluma, 876-3010.
