La Taqueria needs no introduction; the restaurant has received numerous accolades and awards for its food over the years (mostly for the tacos, appropriately). But it's the off-the-menu items that take the place to a whole new level. Few people know about these... until now.
Dorado Style everything: So the tacos dorados are a thing --everyone knows about them. But did you know you can dorado your burrito? They'll assemble the burrito then grill the entire thing on the plancha with some oil until it's nice and brown and crispy. They'll also do this to the quesadillas as well.
Combination Meat: Because one is just not enough. Chicken and carne? Sure. Carnitas with lengua? No problem. The chorizo with chicken is a wonderful combination and is purportedly a favorite of the owner.
Salsa Roja: The green sauce is ubiquitously placed throughout the restaurant tables. The red sauce, on the other hand, must be asked for at the counter. Made with roasted arbol chilies, tomatillos, garlic and spices, it's much more intense than its green tabletop counterpart.
Chiles: You can ask for a side of blistered Serranos to bite with your meal. You can also ask for the chiles to be chopped and placed in your burrito. Careful, these pack a spicy punch.
Nachos: When you order chips, add all the sides: beans, salsa, guacamole, sour cream and cheese. The result are nachos. Unfortunately, La Taqueria doesn't allow a side of meat, but if you smile nicely and pay a premium, they just may let you...
