Aperto Restaurant

1434 18th St. (at Connecticut)
San Francisco, CA 94107
252-1625
Website
In a city with distinctive neighborhood restaurants, this is one of the best (and therefore worth a trip out of yours). It doesn't take reservations for parties of fewer than six, but call ahead and you'll get the first free table when you arrive at this snug, nicely decorated corner space. There are wonderful salads, starters, pastas, mains, and desserts -- fresh, seasonal, and made in-house. Good ingredients are treated with respect here. Well-priced wine list, featuring Italian vintages. - Meredith Brody
