Arnie Morton's, the Steakhouse

400 Post (at Powell)
San Francisco, CA 94102
415-986-5830
Website
The San Francisco outpost of this high-end restaurant group serves excellent steak in its accustomed habitat: a masculine, dark-paneled venue with tuxedoed waiters, heavy cutlery, and martinis at every elbow. Just like in the Old Country, waiters wheel the foodstuffs to your table on a cart for your pre-dining perusal. Most everything's delicious, but the high decibel level and generic ambience can be off-putting. Large, meat-friendly wine list.

The Inside Word on Arnie Morton's, the Steakhouse

I have a huge sweet tooth. I don’t really have that high of standards when it comes to dessert. You give me a couple of Fast Breaks from Walgreens -- it’s the Reese's family --and oh man, those are the best! Other than that, I’d probably say the chocolate cake from Morton’s is pretty darn good.

Always a great steak and atmosphere. Great side orders.

It’s convenient. It’s right across the street. I like how the bottom floor is below street level, so it’s real quiet and a little darker -- a cool area to relax in and hang out. Most guys get the Filet, but I usually go with the Rib Eye because I like a little more flavor. I’m a big mac and cheese fan, and it's great here.
