Burma Superstar

309 Clement (at Fourth Ave.)
San Francisco, CA 94118
415-387-2147
Website
Cozy Clement Street restaurant features stunningly good Burmese cuisine, itself a blend of Thai, Chinese, and Indian influences. Start with the moh hinga (fish porridge), the samusa soup, or the elaborate, 22-ingredient rainbow salad. Then order a side of rice (coconut, spicy Indian-style, or Burmese fried) to go with entrees like an exquisite pork and potato curry, squid sautéed with chilies and basil, or curried noodles with chicken and coconut milk. For dessert, try the coconut custard fritters. Small, affordable list of beer and wine. - Robert Lauriston

The Inside Word on Burma Superstar

This is my favorite restaurant in SF. Spicy, flavorful, and worth the wait. I say wait because there is always a line. My husband and I like to get there when they open and by the time we get our food (6pm) it is practically dinner time. I would suggest getting more Burmese dishes instead of Chinese influenced once. (The menu indicates which are which). Things we usually order: * Vegetarian Samusa Soup * Tea Leaf Salad * Beef or Tofu Vegetable Kebat

This place is about three blocks from my house and I pass it all the time... so trust me when I say that it is always crowded during dinner, not matter what the night. The reason is of course that the food is super good. I love their sesame chicken! You can't make a reservation, but you might have better luck if you go early in the evening of during lunch.
