Located in the newly renovated Westin Hotel just off Market, Ducca offers top-notch Italian cooking inspired by the Veneto (the region around Venice), in a formal dining room accented with Murano glass chandeliers and a lovely patio (open for lunch). Best dishes include the cichetti (Venetian bar snacks such as fried anchovies and little rice balls called arancini), top-notch salumi (cured meats) and assorted Italian cheeses, lamb polpettone (meatball) sandwich at lunch, and the polenta sformato (something like a crustless quiche). Pastas and secondis (meat courses) can be a little heavy. Superb desserts include mascarpone panna cotta with espresso gelee and chocolate granita, and an airy ricotta cheesecake with orange caramel sauce and honey granita. - Meredith Brody
