Hime

2353 Lombard
(at Scott)
San Francisco, CA 94123
415-931-7900
Website
A large, modern, and unusually elegant izakaya, a kind of Japanese restaurant that serves many small plates, designed to encourage drinking. Daringly, there’s no sushi bar, though Hime serves some of the best sushi and sashimi in SF at your table, along with an interesting assortment of yakitori (grilled chicken), kushiyaki (grilled meat and vegetable skewers), tempura, donburi (rice bowls), udon (noodles), tofu, salads, bento boxes, and other ippin ryori (small plates). We love the tsukune (chicken meatballs served with a poached egg), and the spicy scallop on crispy rice. - Meredith Brody
