Hotei

1290 Ninth Ave. (at Irving)
San Francisco, CA 94122
415-753-6045
Website
The menu is headed "Japanese Noodle Cuisine," and almost every table in this cozy spot bears a steaming bowl of somen, udon, soba, or ramen, with toppings ranging from the simplest (green onions and seaweed) to the most elaborate (shrimp, scallops, baby squid, fish cake, and vegetables). But there's a lot more on offer, including all the classic Japanese dishes from teriyaki to tempura and a whole menu devoted to extravagant sushi rolls. Very reasonable, too.
