Johnson's Bar-B-Que

2646 San Bruno (at Burrows)
San Francisco, CA 94134
415-467-7655
Website
"You can eat my meat with no teeth," the sign at Johnson's declares. And it's true — but before you leave your choppers by the bedside, give the owners a call. They'll have your smoky barbecued ribs (beef or pork), hot links, catfish, red snapper, or buffalo fish (!) ready by the time you get to the counter. Or you can stay and eat in the bare booths. The specialty of the house is the "Thermal Nuclear Sauce," and its combo of heat with aromatic, deep spices made us duck and cover, then faint with joy. A dose of the well-flavored, ungreasy greens revived us. There's sweet potato pie for dessert.
