LArdoise Bistro
151 Noe (at Henry)
San Francisco, CA 94114
This charming small French place, done in dark spice colors with small wooden tables and chairs, is perfect for its Noe Valley neighborhood. Menu specials are posted on the slate blackboards the bistro is named after, in addition to the half- dozen starters and eight or so entrées on the brief paper menu. Soupe du jour could be onion or tomato; butter lettuce salads are big and brightly dressed. If the tiger prawn raviole are on the menu, try them. Excellent coq au vin, good duck leg confit served with irresistible pommes landaises (thick chipped potatoes fried in duck fat), and flavorful, chewy hanger steak. - Meredith Brody
