Delicious, sophisticated fare served in a chic urban setting South of Market. Chef Ola Fendert prepares fresh, seasonal, mostly organic food, new American cooking with French and Italian accents: We love the foie gras served with persimmon and brandied cherries, the chanterelle and blue oyster mushroom tart, and the assertive Caesar salad to start, followed by deceptively simple fish, flesh, and fowl, roasted, seared, or grilled, served atop well-thought-out vegetables -- dishes such as the wild salmon with tomato-bell pepper stew and chicken on fennel confit. Finish with the apple crisp disguised as a hot pocket or the Roquefort with caramelized pears. A bar runs the length of the place. And a definite plus is that the kitchen is open late.
