Elizabeth Falkner, the spiky-haired chef locally famed for her popular Hayes Valley restaurant Citizen Cake, goes modern at new industrial chic SOMA outpost. Its "edgy California cuisine," per the Web site, "flirts a bit with the future": interesting, if not always entirely successful, assemblages of ingredients and techniques, including such cutting-edge techniques as sous-vide (sealed in plastic and cooked in simmering water). We loved the tempura egg starter, and enjoyed the charcuterie platter and the frequently-changing roast pig entrée. Thoughtfully creative, exotic cocktails are served at table or at the large horseshoe bar. - Meredith Brody
