The Grubstake

1525 Pine (at Polk)
San Francisco, CA 94109
415-673-8268
Website
This eccentric joint, housed in an old rail car that was decommissioned and turned into a diner at this location in 1927, offers breakfast, good burgers, and Portuguese specialties Monday through Friday from 5 p.m. to 4 a.m., and all day and almost all night (10 a.m. to 4 a.m.) on the weekend. Tasty and inexpensive.

The Inside Word on The Grubstake

  • LaraW
One Saturday night I was leaving one of my favorite bars and was starving. I got in the cab and asked the driver to stop at a local late night diner. He took me here. Not only did i chat up some pretty interesting bikers, but I ordered the best potato skins I've ever had. Nice work cab man.
