For the seventh year running, Noise Pop will expand outside the confines of its Mission offices and into the streets. The 20th Street Block Party returns on Saturday, Aug. 17, with Australian indie rockers Alex Cameron & Roy Molloy, Philly quartet Speedy Ortiz, ex-Cherry Glazerr singer-songwriter SASAMI, Oakland’s own Hello Yello and Shutups, ZOLA, and many others performing on two stages. They’ll be announcing the full lineup in the weeks to come.
Taking up both 19th and 20th streets between Bryant and Harrison, the festival footprint also includes the same diverse culinary offerings as in years past, with plenty of stands and food trucks (exact composition TBD). Although entrance to the block party is free, donations are what keep it going. (There are also VIP tickets available.) As ever, it’s a fundraiser for a local nonprofit, which happens to be the literacy masterminds at 826 Valencia.
