Day Wave Signs to Harvest Records

The Marin native and dream-pop impresario bids adieu to the independent artist life.

Jackson Philips, the singer and guitarist behind Day Wave, may be an indie-pop darling, but he’s no longer an indie — as in “independent” — artist. The Marin native signed with Capitol Music Group’s label Harvest Records, which has artists like Banks, Best Coast, Glass Animals, and TV On The Radio on its roster.

Philips had previously aligned with other labels for the release of his EPs, but his signing to Harvest marks his first major record deal.

To coincide with the news, Philips has released a new song, “Wasting Time,” which premiered on Sirius Alt Nation. The dream-pop ditty is awash in sweeping guitar chords, and in classic Day Wave fashion, it revolves around a slightly negative topic — “I’m wasting all my time,” he croons in the hook — and pairs it with an upbeat melody and lush production.
