Premiere: Gracie and Rachel Cover Kreayshawn’s “Gucci Gucci”

Who knew the rap song would sound good as an a capella choral arrangement?

In this new video from Berkeley pop-violin duo Gracie and Rachel, the two musicians cover Bay Area rapper Kreayshawn’s 2011 viral hit, “Gucci Gucci.” Gracie and Rachel nix the original’s electronic production — which features a zippy synth line and thundering bass — and instead opt for an A capella version, harmonizing the words to the song as they navigate a maze of hallways in the black and white video.

As it turns out, both artists attended Berkeley High School at the same time as Kreayshawn, and even shared a friend or two in common. The cover is an homage to the White Girl Mob rapper, whom they describe as “our hometown hero.”

“She really is a badass lady who is not afraid to speak her mind and have fun doing so,” Gracie says. “And I think we could all learn a lot from women like her right now. She has the swag and it’s pumping out of her ovaries.”

Stay tuned for the pair’s self-titled debut album, which is scheduled to drop in early 2017.
