Oakland is about to get a new brick-and-mortar record store. On Friday, Feb. 1, Bandcamp will open a physical location at 1901 Broadway with a bunch of records culled from its five-million strong digital collection. Shortly thereafter, the 11-year-old online music service will start hosting free, all-ages shows as part of a video series, too.
Since the location is right near the Fox, the Paramount, Starline Social Club, and other venues, it’ll theoretically become a new haven for people to gather and listen to analog music, without white earbuds, together. How neat is that? The opening celebration kicks off at 7 p.m. on Feb. 1, with Bells Atlas, Sol Development, Queens D. Light, Jazz on the Sidewalk, and MJ’s Brass Boppers scheduled to perform.
