One of the Bay Area’s largest and most eclectic bands, Con Brio merges disparate genres — like funk, psychedelic, Afro-soul, electronic, and R&B — with an array of instruments — including trumpet, saxophone, electric guitar, and keyboards — into one cohesive, rollicking sound. In the septet’s most recent album, Paradise, they tackle hard-hitting contemporary topics like police brutality and the Black Lives Matter movement (“Free & Brave”), the struggles of urban life (“Hard Times”), and financial hardships (“Money”). Their upcoming night at The UC Theatre is their biggest headlining show to date, and it’s a must-see for anyone who loves lively performances and a melting pot of sounds.
Con Brio at 8 p.m., Friday, Oct. 14, at The UC Theatre in Berkeley. $21.50; theuctheatre.org.
