The year 2007 meant a lot of things for a lot of people. For me, it marked my foray into the Los Angeles clubbing scene, and all of my (hazy) memories from that time are inextricably linked to the electronic duo Justice’s second-ever single, “D.A.N.C.E.” (And with a name like that, how could it not be the soundtrack for that phase of my life? I mean, come on!) Though “D.A.N.C.E.” is still their most famous track, the last decade has been good to the French group, which has done everything from remix songs from other bands and turn them into better songs (Case in point: Justice’s version of MGMT’s “Electric Feel,” which won a Grammy Award in 2009) to creating a four-part mix for a Dior Homme fashion show. Our guess about Justice’s secrets to success and knack for creating undeniably catchy, amphitheater-ready songs? Their mixed bag of influences, which include everything from glam metal and ’80s new wave to disco and funk.
