Fronted by Alvaro Del Norte, Piñata Protest takes loud and brash punk and spices it up with some true south-of-the-border flavors. Del Norte’s accordion floats over scratchy guitar, while his lyrics flit between Spanish and English proving that no matter the language, fist pumping is a universal reaction. The band, which peaked at No. 7 on the Latin Billboard charts for its 2013 album El Valiente, has popped up on numerous movie soundtracks, and there’s even a beer named after them. So brush up on your Spanish, but you can probably leave the blindfold at home.
Piñata Protest with Day Labor, Corazon Salvaje, and Shark Punch at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 14 at 924 Gilman in Berkeley. $12; 924gilman.org.
