A more melodic and less weird alternative to Animal Collective, the Canadian sextet Royal Canoe works wonders with synthesizers, homemade field recordings, and an array of percussion instruments. Their music is fun, sunny, and anodyne in the sense that you’re more likely to love it than hate it. The one thing their music lacks, though, are canoes. You won’t find any onstage, and I highly doubt they use them in their recordings, but hey, maybe you’ll find something emblazoned with canoes at their merch table?
Royal Canoe at 8 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 25, at Brick and Mortar Music Hall. $10; brickandmortarmusic.com.
