K. Michelle @ Mezzanine

There are a lot of black female singers whose names start with a K: Keyshia Cole, Kelly Rowland, Kelis, Kehlani, Kelela, and Keri Hilson. And then there's K. Michelle. Yes, she sings lovelorn R&B songs like the others do and possesses a strong, throaty voice. But there are other ways in which Michelle, who's toured with Robin Thicke and R. Kelly, differentiates herself. For one, she has a knack for titles. Her most recent album is More Issues Than Vogue, and standouts from her older records include Anybody Wanna Buy A Heart? and Still No Fucks Given. A former cast member on Love & Hip-Hop: Atlanta and Love & Hip-Hop: New York, Michelle now has her own VH1 reality series, K. Michelle: My Life. She's also the first African-American to get an endorsement deal with Jack Daniels, and like E-40 and Nicki Minaj before her, is working on developing her own drink. In sum, her name might start with a “K” like a bajillion other songstresses, but she's certainly forging her own path both in the music world and beyond.
