Plaid: Show Preview

British producers Andy Turner and Ed Handley, better known to collectors as Warp Records stalwarts Plaid, have been quoted claiming that their electronic compositions are just a hypermodern, post-acid-house extension of their love of hip-hop, graffiti, and robofunk. With Scintilli, the duo's first non-soundtrack release in eight years, Plaid furthers that legacy, exhibiting a rare ability to juggle the breakbeat. Just as melodic — though somewhat less metamorphic when compared to past full-lengths — Scintilli is a logical continuation of Plaid's finer signatures: spongy rhythms that dilate, contract, and repeat, detuning tone sweeps that condense into balmy chords, and synth voices that seem to be slurring harmonics.
