Another week, another crop of parties. As you might imagine, the sunny weather forecast for this weekend portends nights of heavy partying. We advise you get into the spirit of things by enjoying yourself at one of the following events. Read on — your weekend awaits.
Friday, May 11
When: 10 p.m. – 5 a.m.
Why: AYLI returns with yet another stunning booking at Beatbox. This time around, the party is back with a special double header of an evening, featuring sets by two of house music's most experimental artists. Jus-Ed is the head of Underground Quality, a Connecticut label that's established itself as a force of freshness in East Coast house. Recent months have seen a number of U.Q. artists — like Nina Kraviz at Public Works — rock San Francisco dancefloors til the early morning, and all signs indicate that Jus-Ed will be following suit. Get a feeling for his style by listening to “It's A Struggle,” “Oh My,” and this mixtape. Joining the bill for the evening is Detroit house producer Marcellus Pittman. Known as one of the 3 Chairs (along along with Moodymann, Theo Parrish, and Rick Wilhite), Pittman's discography is a procession of raw-edged Detroit beatdown cuts. Listen to “There's Somebody Out There,” “If The Earth Could Talk,” and his just released entry in AYLI's podcast series.
