Zedd Will Headline the Blockchain-Run OUR Music Festival

San Francisco will be home to a new festival in October that is — no joke — the first blockchain-powered music festival.

OUR Music Festival will come to Civic Center Plaza on Saturday. Oct. 20 through a partnership between electronic dance music producer 3LAU (aka Justin Blau) along with blockchain entertainment studio Singular DTV and independent festival promoter Prime Social Group. As of now, Zedd is the first and only confirmed artist, but organizers pledge to add “some of the biggest names” in hip-hop and dance genres.

With a cryptocurrency ecosystem to buy merchandise, food, and drinks, OMF believes it can circumvent scalping and counterfeiting that plagues other festivals.

“The blockchain space is littered with promises that lack real-world application,” Blau said. “While it will take time for OMF to reach its full potential, our team has studied blockchain-layered applications and legal compliance for years to facilitate realistic steps toward decentralization.”

In other words, they’ve been thinking about it for a while and it could take a few years for it to hit its stride.

From cryptocurrency rapper CoinDaddy to indie pop band Joywave adding “blockchain” to its business moniker, musicians are tying themselves to the new culture. And in the tech center that is the Bay Area, a themed festival was bound to happen here.

OUR Music Festival, Saturday, Oct. 20, at Civic Center Plaza, lineup and ticket information yet to be announced, omf.io
