You know what gets in the way of an event highlighting the dire plight of young people? Young people.
San Francisco's erstwhile mayor Gavin Newsom was last week honored at a slammin' San Diego party. But this wasn't just a fiesta for a fiesta's sake. The purpose of this gathering was, according to the invitation, to highlight the importance of an “accessible-by-all higher-education system in California.”
In the very next paragraph, however, the organizers noted “We apologize in advance, but STINGAREE is a 21-and-over venue.”
Huh. It's a shame our higher-education system isn't more accessible. Otherwise we'd know the meaning of irony when we see it.
