There Was a Nazi Flag Flying in the Castro Today

It's already been taken down.

In a spectacularly tone-deaf commentary on the state of affairs in America, some white dude in the Castro decided on Wednesday that it was a great day to hoist a big old swastika and fly it high in the sky above San Francisco.

It has already been taken down, though. (Who keeps such an item around, we wonder? Did he play an extra in the last scene of a summer-stock production of Cabaret?)

A crusader for justice and goddamn common-fucking-sense confronted the guy, and neighborly harmony prevailed. But for a while, Dolores Heights looked like it had been annexed in the Anschluss. And we already knew that hate groups were on the rise in the Bay Area.

Oh, and by the way, today is the 78th anniversary of Kristallnacht.
