The fatal beating of a 65-year-old man with a metal cane began with an argument over a slice of pizza, police said Wednesday.

Surveillance footage captured the assault and showed that a verbal argument on Sixth Street over pizza came first, according to police. Police found the man after the suspect attacked him with a metal cane on Sept. 6 around 12:50 a.m.

The victim was transported to the hospital and ultimately succumbed to his injuries on Sept. 9. The Medical Examiner’s office identified him as 65-year-old Harvey Grosser.

An arrest has not yet been made but police identified the suspect as a woman. Police are investigating the assault as a homicide.

Police Chief Bill Scott announced the death during the Police Commission meeting on Wednesday, the Examiner reported. In 2018 so far, there have been 34 homicides compared to 47 homicides during the same period last year.
